Remember the fall dog safety tips y’all! Fall is a great time of year. Everyone loves the cooler weather, beautiful leaves, pumpkin spiced everything, apple orchards and more. Dogs love this season too, and we often have more energy which means we may be more likely to find trouble.
Fall is a great time to get out and walk with your dog. She will love all the fall smells in the air and on the ground, and you can enjoy the beautiful leaves. With cooler weather, you will both be able to take longer walks too!
Despite being a wonderful season, fall does have some dangers, especially for dogs. Many people think that ticks are gone with the cooler weather, but this is false. Keep up on your dogs flea and tick prevention and checks. Ticks may not be as active as in other times of the year, but they are still out and about.
Darkness is a big danger for both you and your dog. Days are getting shorter, and chances are you will end up walking in the dark at least now and then. Remember to have your human dress in bright clothing and if possible wear reflectors or small lights. Decorate your pup with a pretty glowing necklace to make sure she is seen. We love our necklaces and even in the yard, Mom enjoys watching us run around while lit up.
Pumpkin spiced everything is the trend, but keep it away from your pup! spices such as clove, allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon can be dangerous for dogs. If your dog loves pumpkin, give her plain pumpkin only.
Halloween candy is already out, and this time of year drives people to comfort foods like chocolate. Remember chocolate is poisonous for dogs. Be safe, and keep candy out of reach, or locked up in a dog proof container. Watch out for discarded wrappers too.
Most dogs enjoy eating apples just as humans do, and many orchards are dog friendly. Keep in mind to not let your dog eat the core containing the seeds. If she gets a few seeds, things will probably be fine, but apple seeds contain cyanide and should really not be ingested by dogs at all.
